Laws go to pot over religion
Things have really gone to pot for the Church of the Universe in Hamilton, Ont. Church founders Walter Tucker and Michael Baldasaro are facing hefty jail terms and have had their east-Hamilton “church” seized.
Tucker and Baldasaro were found guilty of selling small quantities of marijuana to an undercover police officer. The church, established in 1969, has used marijuana as a sacrament for the past 30 years.
Many folks won’t be upset with the news that the Honchos of the Heavenly High will be spending time in the hoosegow.

Judge rejects Franklin County man’s marijuana as part of religion argument
A judge today rejected a motion to dismiss drug charges against Robert George Henry on the basis that marijuana use is part of the man’s religion.
Cumberland County President Judge Edgar Bayley rejected the motion this afternoon in Cumberland County court.
“Our position is, if you’re part of that particular religion, you are able to use it for personal use,” said Henry’s attorney, George N. Marros. Henry, a 48-year-old resident of Fannettburg, Franklin County, admitted in court today that he did not join the church until two months after his arrest on drug charges
Cruise Fumes Over Marijuana Association
Tom Cruise’s attorneys are looking to take legal action over a new strain of medical marijuana that has been put on the market under the star’s name.
The “Tom Cruise Purple” brand, which features a picture of the actor laughing on the vials, is currently being sold in licensed marijuana clubs in Northern California.
The strain is said to be particularly strong and users can experience hallucinations.
But the association has infuriated the anti-drug star, whose Scientology religion opposes any kind of use of psychotropic drugs.
Cruise’s lawyers are now seeking to sue the manufacturers, reports the New York Daily News.
League for Spiritual Discovery
The League For Spiritual Discovery was a religious organization based around the works of Timothy Leary, and strove for legal use of LSD for religious purposes. It was in existence until the end of the 1960s, and eventually closed by Leary. The organization was re-founded in 2006, to continue and expand upon the original work.

Roger Christie
Roger Christie is a minister and campaigner against the US drug policy. In 2000, he founded the THC Ministry, a religion that considers cannabis to be a sacrament.
Roger Christie was born on 15 June 1949 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Raised and schooled in the New Jersey countryside in the 1950s and 1960s, he graduated from high school in 1967, the famous “summer of love”.

The Church of Cognizance (COC) was founded in 1991 by Danuel & Mary Quaintance in Graham County (Pima) Arizona, United States.
Beginnings
In 1994, the Church officially proclaimed its existence to the world by recording a 16-page “Declaration of Religious Sentiment” which was filed on August 10. The COC Founders recorded their intent to unite the world’s Ethnic Minorities that utilize and rely upon the cannabis hemp plant as an Ethno-Socio-Religious Institutution, following Neo-Zoroastrian tenets.

Cannabis Assembly is a non-profit UK based religious group open to all people who declare a sincere cantheist use of cannabis. Cannabis Assembly promotes the freedom to use cannabis as a sacrament and medicine for the benefit of all people.
History
Cannabis Assembly was formed in 2004 by Reverend Peter Brown and Reverend Paul Farnhill to provide free legal documents to aid and protect cantheist cannabis users. It has members in the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America.

Way of Infinite Harmony
The Way of Infinite Harmony is a Taoist, sect that worships Her Holiness Princess Ma Gu, Goddess of Hemp (Immortal Xu Miao). The most famous story featuring Ma Gu is the Ma Gu Xian Shou (a story that appears in the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West). This story tells of a great feast where Ma Gu gives the Queen Mother of the West (a very important Deity) a special wine made of cannabis (other sects claim this wine to be made from mushrooms). During the Cultural Revolution Ma Gu devotees were persecuted and the sect went into decline. However since the religious reforms in China the sect is once again growing, and now has followers from all over the globe.
THC Ministry
The THC Ministry, founded by Roger Christie from the Religion of Jesus Church, is a religion which considers cannabis to be a sacrament. Members base their practices on what they see as an eclectic mixture of ancient wisdom, modern science, and the enlightening and healing properties of cannabis sacrament. Its mission includes “liberating the cannabis hemp plant and the minds of those who do and of those who do not revere it,” and is actively involved in the legal and social discussions surrounding cannabis use in society.
