Cannabis Culture magazine

Cannabis Culture Magazine was founded in the spring of 1995 by Marc Emery, BC Marijuana Party President, well-known as “Canada’s Prince of Pot”. The magazine is released every two months, and evolved from a publication called “The Marijuana & Hemp Newsletter” launched in 1994.

For the first three years the magazine was named Cannabis Canada, but changed its name to Cannabis Culture with issue number 13, released in July 1998.

The editor of the magazine for the first ten years was Dana Larsen, who left the magazine in April 2005, after issue 54. The magazine is now edited by Marc Emery.

In 2000, Cannabis Culture was pulled off store shelves in Timmins, Ontario, Canada. Local police told retailers that it was a crime comic. Publisher Marc Emery flew to Timmins and gave away copies in front of the police station, and ultimately the police apologized.

Cannabis Culture Magazine is also banned in Australia, and has had problems with New Zealand customs.

Available at newsstands across North America, Cannabis Culture Magazine describes itself on its website as being for lovers of cannabis in all its diverse forms. The magazine also hosts an active website and discussion forums

High Times

High Times High Times is a New York City-based magazine. The publication strongly advocates the legalization of cannabis. For a brief period, it moved toward an overtly left-wing lifestyle magazine under publisher Richard Stratton, who hired John Mailer, Norman Mailer’s youngest son, as Executive Editor. It has since returned to its earlier roots in the cannabis subculture. Recently, the magazine created an “un-reality” TV show based around the adventures of some of the staff. The show (High Times TV) was launched on YouTube, and heavily promoted through myspace.com.
